Heaven in your Home!
Matt 6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. 9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
When Jesus taught the disciples how to pray, it does not look like how we are praying today. Most people go to God with a long list of prayer requests and praying in such a way that hopefully, some of the items will get into the ears of our Father and perhaps He will answer them. But this is clearly not the picture that Jesus was painting for them when it comes to prayer!
Why is the picture so different? This has got to do with our starting points and our focus? We begin here on earth and direct our prayers toward heaven. Jesus did not begin with requests but only one request – your kingdom come! Instead of sending our prayers to heaven, Jesus is asking heaven to come down here on earth! What is the difference? It is like going to the supermarket to buy bottles of drinking water versus bringing the whole water production machine to your house!
When heaven comes to earth, all that we need on earth will be met by the resources of heaven on earth! Not one bottle at a time but a river of fresh water flowing in our midst!
Learn to walk in such a way that the presence and glory of God is attracted to you. Where you are, heaven appears! That is the crux of how Jesus has taught us to pray. Shift to this pattern and you will see a total difference in your life!
