Pentecost and the Kingdom of God!
Acts 1:6 So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Luke 4:18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
Acts 2:1 When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all togeth-er in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3 And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
All the ministry of Jesus on earth was a demonstration of the pow-er and glory of the Kingdom of God! By his own admission, the Man-date of Jesus was to preach the good news of the Kingdom of God!
It is not a future event but is something that has come in the pre-sent even though we do look forward to the future when all the en-emies of God are vanquished and we rule with Jesus in the Millenni-um. But right now, we can experience the Kingdom and bring others to the same experience through the preaching of the gospel of the Kingdom.
To be able to carry the Kingdom, Jesus declared in Luke 4 that the Spirit of the Lord is now on him! We need the Holy Spirit for our born again experience and we need the Holy Spirit to be upon us for empowerment to preach and demonstrate the Kingdom! That was why when the disciples asked Jesus when is he restoring the king-dom back to Israel, he told them to focus on waiting for the em-powerment from on high!
Without the Holy Spirit, we cannot be effective agents of the Kingdom of God! We must go beyond speaking in tongues and walk in the fullness of the power and glory of the Kingdom that millions might take hold of it and be transformed! Amen.
