The Overflowing Power of Communion!
John 6:63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life
John 15:1 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 Already you are clean because of the word that I have spo-ken to you. 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gath-ered, thrown into the fire, and burned. 7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. 9 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. 10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. 11 These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full
This is one of the most important passages on Kingdom Discipleship yet many do not quite understand the dynamics of abiding in Him. Without a revelational understanding of the power of communion with Him, we will not be able to be fruitful which is the mark of a Kingdom disciple.
This picture that Jesus painted in John 15 is reminiscent of the picture in the garden of Eden where Adam and Even had to choose between living from the Tree of Life or the Tree of the knowledge of good and evil. With the Genesis passage in the background, we will be able to understand what Jesus is referring to a lot more clearly. He is the Tree of Life – the way the Truth and the Life(John 14:6). Fruitfulness does not come by us striving to do our best to follow the principles contained in the word of God! Fruitfulness comes when we communion with the Living Word – Je-sus Christ! Fruitfulness does not come from the knowledge of good and evil and choosing to do good! Fruitfulness comes from abiding in the Tree of Life and yielding to Him to produce fruit in our lives.
Without Faith, it is impossible to please God! In this sermon, we will learn how faith is sparked in our hearts! When the logos word meets the River of Fire, Faith is sparked so that we can receive all we can ask for in His Name! Amen.
