The Goodness of God in Uncertain Times!
Psalm 107:1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever. 2 Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out! Tell others he has redeemed you from your enemies
Mark 10:18 And Jesus said to him, Why do you call Me good? No one is good except one, God.
Gen 3:6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.
James 1:16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.
Jer 29:10 This is what the Lord says: “You will be in Babylon for seventy years. But then I will come and do for you all the good things I have promised, and I will bring you home again. 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
One of the most important if not the most important truth about God is His Goodness! God does not just do good, He is good! Of course God’s goodness must be differentiated from humankind’s goodness as the latter is always tainted with our own fallen motives, intentions and ways.
And as the song written and popularised by Don Moen, “God is good all the time!”, we truly can take comfort and refuge in the radical goodness of our God and heavenly Father! James highlighted this very well when he exhorted us not to be deceived but to understand that every perfect gift is from above and come down from the Father of lights with whom there is absolutely no change in that! What does he meant? God is thoroughly good all the time and every good gift is from him from none other. In other words, outside of God, there is nothing good! Moreover, God’s goodness is especially felt in times of uncertainty as it overshadows the latter completely providing the impetus for us to believe Him even for the impossible in such times. May we allow the Goodness of God to saturate and propel us to a new level in Him. Amen.
